So Does Cola Cause Acne or Not?

The Truth About Cola and Acne

So, you want to know if everything you've heard about acne and soda is true? Does soda cause acne or not? Are the naturalists right, or should we believe the dermatologists? Forget what the so-called "experts" tell you my friend -- soda can indeed cause acne breakouts.

The Sugar Factor

How exactly can soda cause acne? It has to do with the large amounts of sugar found in most non-diet soda drinks. Sugar, regardless of what some try to say, does indeed contribute to acne breakouts, and I'm going to tell you how and why.

Your body produces a hormone called insulin (yes, insulin is a hormone). The hormone promotes the uptake of sugar by the cells in the body. However, if a person has insulin resistance (an insensitivity to the insulin hormone) that sugar that you consume each time you drink soda starts to bog down your system. When your system is "toxified" and bogged down, it tries to rid itself of the toxins via your pores. It is at this point you can say hello to acne breakouts.

Not Everyone Reacts the Same

Now, it's important to note that not everyone is insulin resistant. If your body can process sugar like no one's business, chances are you'll never have a cola-related acne breakout. However, if you're one of the many individuals who have an insulin resistance problem, then cola can indeed be the arch enemy of your complexion.

Rethink Your Beverages

If you are a cola addict and you're suffering from acne, I'd seriously suggest rethinking your beverage choices. Drink water instead of soda. If you don't like the taste of water, liven it up with some lemon or lime. It may not be your ideal beverage of choice, but it's better than dealing with nasty acne breakouts.
