Study Reveals Best Acne Treatment

In 1995, Dr. Lit-Hung Leung conducted a study (1) in Singapore. The study consisted of 45 Asian males and 55 Asian females who took 10 to 20 grams of B5 per day. The participants took the 80% of the B5 orally and 20% topically. Dr. Leung saw improvements in all participants within one week to one month.

What is B5?

B5, also known as Pantothenic Acid, is a water-soluble vitamin that's necessary for good health. B5 synthesizes coenzyme A (CoA) which regulates the hormones in your body. Without enough CoA, your body produces androgens causing the buildup of fatty acids your body excretes through your sebaceous glands causing acne.

By taking B5, you're treating your body, naturally, from the inside out. Not only does B5 help CoA work in your body, it reduces the size of your pores in your skin and increases sebum metabolism. Dr. Leung found that taking 10 to 20 grams of B5 per day puts acne in total remission.

Concerns

While it sounds like B5 is the magic bullet to get rid of acne once and for all, there are some concerns. The main concern is that 10 to 20 grams of B5 per day is 100,000 times the US Daily Recommended value.

However, no side effects have been reported from this amount of B5 due to the fact that it is water-soluble. This means your body flushes out the excess so it isn't toxic.
Oil-soluble vitamins can't be flushed out and builds up in your tissue which leads to toxicity.

How to get B5

You can increase you B5 levels several ways including taking supplements, eating foods high in B5, and using topical creams.

You can buy B5 supplements anywhere you buy vitamins. Consider the quality of the supplements you buy as your results will only be as good as the quality of the supplement. Shop for higher quality supplements like Clear5.

To get the amount of B5 Dr. Leung recommends, you would need to take twenty 500 mg pills per day. The treatment works best by spacing the pills out to 4 to 5 times per day so your body can get the benefit of the pills. The drawback is the inconvenience for people who don't like to take pills.

Alternatives include taking B5 powder. The body absorbs the powder better and costs less. But, you need to be aware that it has a bad taste. Time-release B5 pills have a higher rate of absorbency but are more expensive and you still must take it several times per day.

Foods that are naturally high in B5 are whole-grain cereals, legumes or beans, eggs, meat, royal jelly, broccoli and avocados. By including these in your diet, you could take less supplements.

B5 may be the answer to your acne problems -- or not. Different acne treatments work differently on each person. Before taking B5 supplements and using a B5 cream, talk to your doctor and get his opinion.
