Acne Toner -- Worth the Trouble?

Learn what acne toner is and how it can help your complexion

New products designed to cure or improve acne appear on the scene every other day -- or so it sometimes seems. One product touted as beneficial for acne treatment is toner. If you are unfamiliar with skin toner and are confused about using it, keep reading to see if it's the product for you.

Acne products

Toner is one product out of many in the arsenal of skin care. The purpose of toner is to balance your Ph levels on your skin after cleansing. Using toner helps moisturizer and over-the-counter acne treatments work more effectively. Toner hydrates, tightens pores, and refreshes your skin.

Does all this mean that it will cure your acne or give you the perfect looking complexion you've been dreaming of? Unfortunately not. Using toner does have its benefits, however, and you might want to take advantage of them.

Tips for using acne toner

-- Apply your acne toner with a cotton ball after cleaning your skin with cleanser. Gently glide the cotton ball over your skin in a circular motion. Be careful not to rub too hard as it may irritate your skin.

-- After you apply your toner, complete your acne facial by waiting 10 minutes and then apply your acne medication.

-- Your toner, as well as all acne products you use, should be alcohol-free and should refresh and tighten your skin pores. If you have sensitive skin or skin sensitivity due to your acne medication, try Proactiv Revitalizing Toner. This product contains glycolic acid combined with witch hazel, which is very soothing.

-- Murad has a clarifying toner that is alcohol-free but also contains menthol an antiseptic that cools as it refreshes. This combined with vitamin C and E makes this toner very effective.

-- To finish your cleansing routine, always apply a moisturizer that contains sun block.

Even though toner alone is definitely not the 'cure-all' for your skin problems, you might want to try it. The benefits of toner can't hurt your skin and might improve your acne. And treat your skin and complexion with a decidedly smoother appearance.
